Don’t panic. Although my spelling is bad it’s not that bad! It really is Poolates the aquatic version of Pilates.
This swimming pool version of Pilates has been created by Rebecca Pfeiffer (although I’m sure I’ve heard of a similar idea called Swimalates) and uses the same principles as it’s namesake.
It claims that even people who would be unable to do Pilates Matwork due to injury, being overweight or pregnant could safely do this version because the body is supported by water. Joint stress and therefore risk of injury is reduced enabling many people who would normally be unable to take advantage of Pilates get some of the benefits.
Poolates claims to offer you a challenging mind body workout that will strengthen, tone and improve your concentration whilst minimizing the risk of injury.
Sounds great and if I could find a local class I’d be tempted to have a go myself – it sounds like a lot of fun and could be a great introduction to Pilates for those unable to join a regular class due to injury.
