When Carol and I first started thinking about a Beginners Pilates Subscription Program we knew it would take a lot of work. What we hadn’t realized was just how much!
In hindsight it was just as well because if we had I really don’t believe the program would have been born. To date we have put in about 300 hours worth of work and I estimate we still have another 200 hours or so before we’ll be done with the first months content (that’s if we stop adding to it).
In theory producing a complete beginners guide shouldn’t be that difficult (mind you in theory a bumble bee shouldn’t be able to fly) but it is. Teaching a complete beginner who hasn’t got access to an instructor is challenging to say the least because you can make no assumptions as to what they already know and we have to be able to teach them absolutely everything.
It’s an interesting journey for us and has I believe made us better instructors. We’ve had to review all of our teaching materials again and really think about the very basics of Pilates and the Pilates principles.
For us even if no one ever subscribes (although I hope they do!) the insights we’ve gained have made the project worthwhile and our existing clients will benefit through our newly gained insights.
I estimate we should have month one compete by the middle of March 2010.
